Bread FAIL

First bread of 2012. I received a new bread book for Christmas and decided to try one of the recipes.

I was worried about how little water the formula called for. As it happens, I had reason to worry. The dough (if you could call it that), was dry and nearly unworkable. I finally relented and added additional water. Twice. Finally, it started to look like normal bread dough, but the gluten had been pretty brutalized by the time I was finished.

The resulting loaves taste bland, but this is probably what the recipe intended — it was supposed to be a rich sandwich bread.
